CCSS Text Selection Toolkit
Successful implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) rests on the development of well-aligned instructional materials, formative and summative assessments, and teacher training. The foundation for preparing students for lifelong literacy lies in the texts with which they interact. By the time they graduate, students should be prepared to successfully read and analyze the types of complex texts they will encounter after high school. Selecting texts of appropriate type and complexity for use in instruction and assessment is integral to this preparation.
OE has developed a free kit for guiding educators in the text selection process.

The Text Selection Guidelines offer educators guidance on selecting appropriate texts for teaching and assessing specific ELA Reading standards and bundles of standards for Grades 3-12.
The CCSS Text Suitability Review Form is a tool created to help educators analyze specific texts according to the principles in the Guidelines. The review form guides educators through CCSS analysis to determine what instructional purposes texts will support. It also captures analysis, codings, and recommendations in a standardized format to facilitate collaboration across networks of educators.
